The new XF90/2 may prove to be a great performer and I know a lot of portrait folks have been dying for one, but this tiny ancient black screw mount 9cm/4 Elmar cost me $132 WITH an LTM-XF adapter on eBay and I'm pretty happy with the Bokeh @f/4. :)
I used to have a silver version that was even cleaner, but I sold all my...

Every once in a while something says to you... light paint me!
First time I set eyes on this old Oliver I knew it needed to be light painted.

Capturing Light

I slept in this morning and was only wakened by my dog wanting his breakfast. I've a north facing bay window that only gets sunlight early and late in the day. I opened the curtains and noticed the light falling on a rather tired bunch of roses. I grabbed my camera which had the 50-230 on it as I was taking shots of the blood moon we had last night here. I grabbed this shot before the sun moved round the pillar of the window.

I started taking a couple of pictures for the alphabet race thread in the assignments forum using my new Helios 44-2 lens just of objects I had kicking around my office. I wanted to go for that classic feel so used a VSCO Tri-x film simulation with a bit of tweaking in LR. Here are a few so far:

I've just had a long weekend visiting a friend of mine in Bavaria.
During this time, we've been at the four rings firm museum.
Some shots from it (taken by 56, 23 and 18mm).

As a present for the last day of term before the summer my boss gave all of us in the department little Lego figures to represent them. Mine is holding a mug of coffee as it is rare I am seen without one in the classroom (I turn caffeine into education). I thought I would have a bit of fun with mine so here is the first instalment of the life of Lego Rob....

Manly birthday flowers and the 35mm lens

I recently turned 50 and my beautiful wife gifted me with a 35mm f/1.4 lens and a dozen long stemmed red roses. Perfect combination to create a photo I thought.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to post process this photo. Back in the Canon days, red flowers were like kryptonite to the system.

Title referring to the leaf image. I definitely can tell a bug left his dinner hanging.
These images are kind of off the beaten path. Around my house, but not the usual pretty flower shots.

The light bulb was run through Nik with a Vintage filter and then grain added.
The deer, I used a Nik b&w filter.
The mailbox, heck, just to show how razor thin focus can be with this lens. For fun. What's life without a bit of fun.
All taken with X-T1 and...

This was my first outing with the 50-140 f2.8 and I thought I'd try it out at the V&A museum in London, along with the 16 f1.4. After queing for nearly an hour (there was an Alexander McQueen exhibition this weekend with the museum staying open 48 hours) I managed to get to the main hall near the Exhibition Road entrance.

Despite its size and weight the 50-140 is a very easy lens to use because of the OIS. I am very happy with its performance too. It won't be a lens I take out all the...
